The Native Irish Alder or the common alder is a deciduous tree which can grown over 20m. It has a conical shape the leaves are large and almost round, catkins hang in clusters from about March onwards, and the cones when ripe hold large numbers of small seeds.

Ideal for poorer soils and wet areas, even along the coast. Ideal trees for shelter belts.
